retain a significant portion of their working set from a previous execution, this cache is said to be a warm cache. Caches that have no history from prior executions are said to be cold caches. Clearly, the individual transactions are dealing with a cold cache for their working set. In a multiprogrammed environment, the cache may be either warm or cold depending upon the cache size, the degree of multiprogramming involved, and the average working set requirement of each task.
